Schwarzenegger Unveils New Green Initiative for Spurring Clean Technology

Senator Harry Reid talked up geothermal energy

Senator Harry Reid talked up geothermal energy in New York today — his home state, after all, is full of hot rocks.

He told the participants in a geothermal energy conference  what needs to be done to boost geothermal and other renewable energy projects — more tax credits and loan guarantees, more funding for transmission, a Federally mandated renewable energy minimum, and a price on carbon.

And he promised it was an urgent priority for him and the Senate. “We cannot be so busy that we cannot address comprehensive energy and climate legislation,” he said.

Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor Group to get $169 million in federal energy tax credits

Hemlock Semiconductor Group and Dow Corning will receive approximately $169 million in federal energy manufacturing tax credits to support the growing solar technology industry.

The tax breaks are part of the Obama administration’s $2.3 billion Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits extended to 183 companies nationwide.

The tax credits include $141.9 million for Hemlock Semiconductor’s recently announced expansion of its Michigan polycrystalline silicon operations, and $27.3 million for a monosilane plant Dow Corning is building, according to a corporate news release.

Texas Instruments Receives $51 Million in Tax Credits

WASHINGTON – Texas Instruments will get a $51 million federal tax credit for building its new chip plant in Richardson, part of a stimulus-funded green-jobs program, the Obama administration announced Friday.

The tax credit is TI’s latest inducement for building its $500 million “RFAB” plant, which later this year will start producing semiconductor devices for solar panels, energy-efficient appliances and advanced utility meters.
